Each year, the Canadian Tourism Commission organizes a tourism marketplace that brings together hundreds of international tour operators, travel agents, and other members of the travel trade with the Canadian tourism industry for four days of speed-dating-style appointments, networking events and professional development sessions to encourage more tourism in Canada. Nunavut Tourism, along with several of our members, attends this event every year as a rare and valuable opportunity to meet with international tour operators who are interested in carrying Nunavut product.
Nunavut Tourism recently hosted a dinner at Brassai restaurant in downtown Toronto for over 30 media and tour operators. The dinner, which featured turbot and shrimp from Nunavut waters, included a presentation about tourism opportunities delivered by Nunavut Tourism’s CEO Colleen Dupuis and a visit from Nunavut Tourism’s new mascot for recreational sport fishing, Charly the Char. Attendees included high-profile fishing TV personality Bob Izumi, editor of Cruise & Travel Magazine Liz Fleming, and significant media outlets such as the Globe & Mail and CTV.
Nunavut Tourism, along with Parks Canada and Nunavut Parks, recently attended the Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto. This is the third consecutive year that Nunavut Tourism and both Parks organizations have attended together and shared a booth, and it continues to be a very successful event for Nunavut. The consumer show attracts outdoor adventure enthusiasts of all types and skills levels whose interests include hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and more.
